A handsome old frontage hides a narrow pub in which the walls are crammed with a variety of objects collected by the previous licensee - beer mats, jazz posters and photos of musicians (reflecting one of his enthusiasms) and a growing collection of awards from a number of organisations. At lunchtime most of the customers are from nearby banks and offices, in the evening mostly regulars. Live music in a variety of styles Mon-Thu eves.

The new licensee of the John O'Gaunt is a long-standing customer of the pub who intends to keep things the same.

The John O'Gaunt closed on Monday 7 January. The licensee is not talking to anyone but it seems that it will reopen as a and when a new tenant is in place.

I'm now told that the John O'Gaunt will reopen on Saturday — with the same landlord. We may never know exactly what has been going on.

The John O'Gaunt reopened on the 20th March with a new (presumably temporary) manager.
