Glasson Dock

Thwaites tied house
A group of 18th century merchants from Lancaster built Glasson Dock to import goods from the West Indies, such as tobacco, cotton and rum, in 1746 on the south bank of the River Lune estuary in open countryside. The village of the same name followed shortly, including, in 1780, the four cottages that became this pub. The dock still does a brisk trade especially considering its small size - both commercial and pleasure traffic. Crews of many nations often end up here, when an unofficial currency exchange operates. Glasson, despite its active commercial nature is picturesque enough to attract a good number of day-trippers as well - it is at the end of a cycleway from Lancaster. Oh, and of course there are the locals. A very varied clientele. Despite "fronting" on a road, the entrance is on the car park, accessed from the dockside. Quiz Wed, indoor putting.
